25 Years of Swansea Community Farm!
Happy New Year, Swansea Community Farm friends! It’s been a while since we’ve given you an update on all things farm related so we thought we’d round things up for you.
This year is particularly special for us at the Farm as we celebrate our 25th anniversary. Over the past quarter-century, we’ve been honoured to grow alongside our incredible community, creating connections, skills, and sustainability.
To mark this milestone, we’ll be hosting a variety of events and activities throughout the year, kicking off with a Wassail Event on January 25th. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or new to the Farm, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Where It All Began
Twenty-five years ago, on December 24th 1999, a dream became a reality and it was the moment Swansea Community Farm officially became a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Thanks to the inspiring leadership of our founder, Ann Bell, the commitment of countless staff and volunteers, the support of our remarkable community, and relentless hard work, that dream has grown into the thriving, vibrant farm we cherish today.
Over the years, we’ve grown beyond our wildest expectations. From planting the first seeds to welcoming volunteers, schools, and visitors, we’ve been a place where lives are enriched and connections are nurtured. Imagine if Swansea Community Farm wasn’t here!? What a loss it would be to our community! We’ve brought people together, inspired lifelong friendships, and provided a green sanctuary in the heart of the city.
Have you volunteered with us? Or has the farm touched your life in a special way? We’d love to hear your stories! Reach out to us at: info@swanseacommunityfarm.org.uk or give us a call 01792 578384. Your memories are a vital part of our journey.
A Thank You!
We certainly had a very busy year throughout 2024, so everyone was ready for a well-deserved break over the Christmas period. We'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our incredible volunteers, young and old, who gave up their time week after week to help look after the Farm throughout the year. We celebrated with a wonderful Christmas lunch together, handing out certificates and festive fun to thank them for everything they do throughout the year.
Developing Green Skills
Staff and volunteers were thrilled to engage in some incredible partnership work with Swansea organisations, all focused on developing green skills and creating some amazing opportunities. Together, we’re trialing new ways to help minoritised young people explore sustainable career paths in the fast-growing green jobs sector. Take a look at our Facebook Post to see some more images from this amazing week.
Festive Family Farm Funday
We had an incredible day at our Festive Family Farm Fun Day (which was slightly delayed due to storm Darragh the previous week). This special event, run by our Child and Youth Project, was an amazing celebration of community spirit, teamwork, and festive cheer. We couldn’t be prouder of our young volunteers, who truly outdid themselves. Their growth and enthusiasm inspire us every day! You can see some lovely pictures from the day on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
